About founder of Primroze Avenue Primrose Stukes,
Primrose is a Baltimore native, mother of two adult children & two young grandsons, whom she loves to the moon and back! Primrose grew up within the State of Maryland’s Foster Care System. Throughout her childhood, Primrose experienced physical, mental, and psychological abuse from her foster mother of six years. In addition, Primrose was raped at the age of twelve by one of her foster sister’s boyfriends, was in another foster home where she was also molested over a four-year period. As a result of the sustained abuse, Primrose developed a sense of having no self-worth and battled with the belief that she was unworthy of love, happiness and peace.
Primrose became pregnant at age 16, was abandoned by the baby’s father who was incarcerated five months into Primrose’s pregnancy, and gave birth to her son at the age of 17. After giving birth, Primrose met a crew fresh off the boat from Jamaica through her street family and latched onto them to be loved, accepted, and taken care of. Primrose started in the drug game at age 18 to survive and provide for her son. Initially, she transported kilos up and down the east coast as a mule, then sold product out of her home in the projects and eventually became addicted to crack cocaine, the product that she sold to survive. Primrose constantly encountered predators throughout her teenage and young adulthood but the most impactful to her was the constant interactions between herself and the women in her life. Primrose experienced every type of bitterness from women and something about it just made her want to be better not "bitter".
Primrose, despite what she believed about herself, knew that she didn’t want to pour bitterness into the world, but she wanted to pour love. For years, Primrose tried doing different things to be “better”, she got baptized at age 23, found Allah at 27 and went back to Jesus at 30. As a result, these spiritual adventures, although well intentioned, caused confusion and perpetuated severe depression and anxiety. One day, however, she had a very frightening thought that scared her just to think about it. The thought spoke out loud in her head and echoed the refrain “Jesus ain’t my savior”. This specific thought shook Primrose to her core and generated anxiety and fear. And, after she verbalized the refrain out loud, she expected to be struck by lightning or something. Fortunately, nothing happened, at least not what she thought would happen.
After looking outside herself for years to find peace, Primrose finally looked inward and experienced peace within her mind and was able to let go. Primrose often reflected on the times when she could have used a savior, but realized that time was over and now it was her sincerest desire to cultivate her best life through self introspection and exploration. To cultivate inner peace, Primrose began reading self-help books, going to Iyanla Vanzant symposiums, and attempting new things to be her best self. As Primrose began her journey of self exploration and healing, she found a book by accident entitled: The Little Book of Big Lies by author,Tina Lifford. She also participated in The Inner Fitness Project also founded by author Tina Lifford and both changed everything in her life!.
By virtue of the work completed by Tina Lifford, Primrose was finally able to see and face the truth about herself but she also learned how to manage her thoughts and emotions. Most importantly, she also started to practice better thinking habits and created a path to save herself by simply changing her thought processes and the manner in which she viewed herself. Now, after many years of believing that “healing ain’t for me”. Primrose is excited
to confidently step beyond the wall of doubt, fear, and mistrust to share with women across the world her message of self-love, creating & owning your own positive thoughts and proactive emotion management, all of which can help all women to live and be her/their best.
